Off the coast of Mainland Tanzania sits the Islands of Zanzibar. An archipelago made up of two larger islands and a number of smaller islands, the area is steeped in history and culture.
The northern of the two main islands is Pemba. Pemba is not as developed as the larger main island and features only three tourist standard resorts. However, it is a perfect place for those that want to get away from it all and offers exceptional SCUBA diving and snorkelling.
The main island’s official name is Unguja. It is often thought of as Zanzibar. The only city on the island is Zanzibar City. The historic area of the city is often referred to as Stone Town due to the many building there constructed from coral stone. The main city has served as an important seaport for centuries and was the focus of the spice trade and the notorious slave trade.
There are a variety of accommodation options on the island. The Stone Town area has a range of hotels and inns. Along the rest of the island, you can choose from bargain resorts to luxury villas. We have divided the island geographically showing the resorts by Northwest, North, Northeast Southeast and South Coast regions. We have also selected featured properties as our top recommendations.
There are a number of interesting excursions on the island as well. We also offer private and shared transfers to all of the properties on the island.
South of Zanzibar is Mafia Island. This is not part of the Zanzibar Archipelago but is a great place for divers and deep sea fishing. Just off the coast of Mafia Island is Thanda Island. This exclusive island houses a private villa and is offered only as exclusive use.
